Full-time Career Development Program

Turn the sport you love into a career you love!! The Ocean Quest Water Sports 12 - 14 week, Full-time Career Development Program is designed specifically for those who are seeking a full-time career in the diving industry. Aside from the basic training needed to become a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Scuba Instructor, the Career Development Program heightens your training with several programs that increase your exposure to various areas within the business of diving and provide you with additional instructor level training to make you one of the most qualified, entry level instructors in the industry. The course is coordinated by Greg McCracken, one of Canada’s most active PADI Course Directors (Instructor Trainers) and owner of Ocean Quest Water Sports/Ocean Quest Academy of Diving. Greg has extensive experience within all areas of the dive industry and has trained and assisted many Instructors in finding new and exciting careers in diving. Course Content

Core Program

The core programs consist of all the necessary courses needed to achieve the PADI Instructor rating. Each course progressively moves you to a new level of skill and awareness. Completion of the PADI Instructor Development Course prepares you for the final step, the PADI Instructor Examination and certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

The core courses include:

Additional Programs

To increase your knowledge and marketability, your Career Program will include many PADI Specialty courses, business of diving workshops and equipment seminars. In today’s competitive job market, it is necessary for dive professionals to have additional training in order to become more employable. Your Career Development Program gives you the edge by providing this training within your course. In addition, your close relationship with a full service PADI Facility will enlighten you with what potential employers look for in employees.

Continuing Education For the PADI Professional

As a dive professional, it is important to continue your own education to stay current on diving trends and to increase your knowledge. Continuing education programs will benefit you in two ways, first you will increase your employability, and second, you can earn additional income. As a Career Development Program Graduate, you will complete the following:

Professional Continuing Education Courses:

  • Master Scuba Diver Trainer Preparation Course
  • 6 PADI Specialty Instructor Courses plus..
  • PADI Enriched Air Instructor Course
  • DSAT Enriched Air Gas Blender Instructor
  • Emergency First Response Instructor

Requirements

Tuition - $5499.95 + GST

Note: Tuition includes all instruction, student level certification fees and required educational materials. DAN Membership & Instructor application fees, PADI Specialty & EFR Instructor application fees, and PADI Instructor Examination fees are not included. See Ocean Quest staff for details.

Enrollment Requirements

At the time of enrollment, candidates must:

  • Provide proof of certification as a PADI Open Water Diver or other qualifying certification.
  • Provide a PADI/RSTC Medical Statement signed by a physician.
  • Have all required equipment. Consult with Ocean Quest staff for equipment requirements. Candidates will receive special pricing on equipment purchases.

Graduation Requirements

The following requirements must be met prior to entering the PADI Instructor Development Course and PADI Instructor Examination:

PADI Instructor Development Course

  • Must be certified as a PADI Open Water diver or equivalent for six months or longer
  • Have a current CPR certification
  • Must have 60 logged dives
PADI Instructor Examination (I.E.)

  • Must have completed the PADI Instructor Development Course
  • Current CPR certification
  • Must have 100 logged dives

Note: The I.E. is conducted independently by PADI Head Office. Ocean Quest has no direct control over scheduling dates or locations of I.E.’s.

PADI Specialty Instructor Levels

The following requirements must be met in order to obtain PADI Instructor Specialty ratings:

  • Must have completed Instructor Specialty training from a PADI Course Director
  • Must have logged at least 10 dives in specialty area
  • Must successfully complete I.E.

Note: Some exceptions may apply depending on Specialty.

  • Exposure suit suitable for water 45 F ( Drysuit highly recommended)
  • Hood, boots, gloves
  • Weight belt
  • Buoyancy compensator with low pressure inflator
  • Regulator
  • Alternate air source
  • Submersible pressure gauge
  • Depth gauge
  • Underwater timing device
  • Underwater compass
  • Scuba tank (80 cu ft)
  • Primary dive light
  • Back-up light
  • Dive knife
  • Underwater Slate
  • Emergency signal device (whistle, flare)
  • Equipment bag
  • Pool suit
  • Pool weight belt
  • Spare parts kit
  • Log book
